Some places in Maine that are well worth checking out while you're here!
Falmouth
Starting off strong with Mackworth Island - a cute little State Park accessible from the Andrews Avenue causeway, just off US Route 1, where you can walk the island's 1.5 mile trail, enjoy the birds, the sea, the fairy house grove, and the pet cemetery that inspired Stephen King. (Fairy House Building Contest anyone?)
549 Congress Street
A cute and cozy cafe located on Congress Street, filled to the brim with board games! A great place to grab a pick-me-up coffee and play a relaxing round of Eldritch Horror. (It's 3$ to play for an hour but not every barista seems to remember to collect)
548 Congress Street
They say that the more North you go, the worse and worse Southern food is going to get - but here's Taco Escobarr that proves there can be exceptions to the rule. Colorful, fun, and tasty, it's located on Congress Street too - right across from Another Round. So drop by for a taco or two, it won't disappoint!
92 Portland Street
The very definition of eclectic, stepping into Bubba's feels like stepping into a pawn shop straight out of the movies an I mean that in the best, most electric possible way. This is the spot if you want to dance the night away, with great music, fun DJ style, an three entire lit up dance floors. The bar only accepts cash - from cover fee to the drinks (which are a hard pass unless you're there for beer) - and the single ATM they have is finicky so it's better to come here prepared!
117 Spring St, Portland, ME 04101
A queer dance club that hosts drag nights, local DJs, and karaoke every Thursday! The drinks are deliciously strong, and they have fantastic mocktails and other non-alcoholic drinks. It's accessibly despite its small size and the vibes are immaculate. Only hang-up here is that its all bass-heavy EDM - but that might just be unique to the night we paid it a visit.
41 Wharf Street
A small (emphasis on small) bar with great cocktails across the street from Dewey’s. They make drinks quickly, have a nice menu of unique cocktails, and great pretzels! A fine amount of seating room throughout the entire bar makes for a fun time.
Commercial Street
A beloved fixture of the locals and winner of a lot of culinary accolades, Becky's Diner serves American-typical diner food and it's so good the line is often out the door. All the seafood is local and the ambiance is cozy - it's pretty much everything you could want from a diner.
230 Commercial Street
A nice, easily- accessible sushi restaurant by the waterfront. Standing right in the thick of things with the Harbor and Hyatt hotels within easy walking distance, it's a nice place to sit down (inside or out!) and split a roll with friends.
127 Commercial Street
The best food we found in Portland, we found here at Olive Cafe on Commercial Street. It's a tiny place that doesn't do big parties, so we couldn't nab them for catering - so the next best thing is telling everyone we know about it!
99 Main Street, Bethel
Being located in Bethel, an hour and a half out of Portland, it's a bit of a drive but well worth the experience to not only see the history of mining in Maine, but also experience one of the largest collection of meteorites in the world!
96 Main Street, Bethel
If you made the trip to Bethel for the Mineral Museum, don't forget to check out this place right across the street. Made out of the tiny town's old bank, the bakery is the best I've ever been to with its fresh baked goods, coffee, hot apple cider and cute ambiance.
